Maynard Walton, JR

The inspiration for my Norse jewelry started in my uncle John Fleming’s barn in Deerfield, Massachusetts in 1971, when I was nine years old. He was making bronze jewelry using a unique welding, hammering and polishing technique. He successfully marketed his jewelry for a decade as far as New York City. At the time, seeing the bronze welding rod next to the finished jewelry, stirred an excitement in me I had not experienced before. I knew that one day I would learn to express my creativity in a similar manner. I use a combination of similar techniques and silver metal to produce each unique piece of jewelry, which I consider a sculpture. Like the Norse jewelry of old, it can be worn for adornment, style, or communication of an individual's strength, spirit and individuality. My jewelry studio is located in my home, on a mountain in Dedham, Maine. Walton’s Mountain Jewelry is a nod to the past and present as well as the creative spirit of my family, as all three continue to influence my journey.
