Jerin Brooks

Jerin Brooks' studio, Sampo Silver, is a small silver and goldsmithing studio based in Hallowell, Maine and founded in the winter of 2020. Sampo is dedicated to designing contemporary art jewelry as well as silver hollowware and flatware. My work is inspired by classic metalworking techniques and by my love for creating sculptural forms from precious metal, often enhanced with gemstones or pearls. The majority of my work is focused around a special metalforming practice called anticlastic raising, a technique whereby the edges of a flat piece of sheet metal are stretched, the centers are compressed, and a saddle-like shape called a “hyperbolic paraboloid” is created. These shapes lend themselves to elegant sculptural forms that can be endlessly manipulated to inspire novel designs to be adorned and cherished.
