Christopher Whiting
Chris has been fascinated by knives and has collected them for 40 years. Over the past ten years he has focused on Scandinavian Puukko knives. A Swedish family friend had been making them since the early 90’s and Chris was invited to work with him.
"I spent numerous weeks in his shop over the course of last summer studying his techniques. By last fall I was producing my own. I’m a fan of blending traditional Scandinavian woods such as Masur Birch and Curly Maple with exotic woods from Africa & Central America: Thuya Burl, Bocote, and Gaboon Ebony are a few of the woods I like the look and texture of. "
The leather sheaths are all hand cut, sewn and wet fitted to each individual knife. There is no glue or fastener other than the thread used and deer horn buttons. The hanger is attached to the sheath by pressure alone. He uses a variety of dye colors for the sheaths, and they are finished with a fine bees wax.
